We are creating what Dance in the Rain will look like since we closed our office doors. We believe this has given us a lot of opportunities for growth and outreach in ways we have never imagined in the past.
Last Saturday ten peers came together at Aselton Memorial Park. We discussed the importance of continuing the mission of Dance in the Rain. The big question we are going to start with is: "What is different this time?"
The major difference is that we no longer have the huge overhead cost. On the other hand we no longer have a meeting space. We came up with a few ideas. Dance in the Rain be more mobile, meeting in different spaces. While possibly having one consistent peer support group in the same place.
Now the fun part:
I had a talk with a friend of mine, Pat Durgin. If you know Pat you can imagine the possibilities we came up with. I shared with her the ideas that were discussed last Saturday and that we thought being more mobile was a great direction to take. Especially since we don't have an office space or overhead costs.
Now, put the two following pictures together in regards to Dance in the Rain (DITR):
The idea is "Where on Cape Cod is DITR?" Dance in the Rain will post where members are meeting and asking for others to join. For instance:
Campfire on Town Neck Beach in Sandwich
A hike or walk
Payomet Performing Arts
One of the Cape's many festivals
At a Café for coffee
At one of the Art Centers
Any place that will get individuals out throughout the Cape
It's all about community inclusion and breaking the cycle of isolation. We will be connecting with businesses and the community to offset costs and applying for grants.
There is no reason why we cannot use what we have and start now with small gatherings.
Please leave your comments and ideas for places to go!
