"A mind that is stretched by new experience can never go back to its old dimensions." -Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.-
It has been my experience with the current mental health system that the mindset the system promotes is one of maintenance and coping. For me, that was a death sentence. Every time I asked for help I was told to use my coping skills. I felt as though I was constantly treading water to maintain my illness. When the challenges came I had to tread water faster until the challenges past, forever treading water. I eventually became so tired I nearly lost my life. I needed to find a way out of the water. I needed reasons to keep moving forward in life.
In 2011 began to put together over thirty-five years of experience living with a mental illness. I began a long intensive six year journey of creating (Building Wholeness). It is a journey of healing developed as I navigated through the mental health system and a life in turmoil.
I edited and re-edited this program as I gained a deeper understanding of healing and each concept I was trying to express.
As I began to build the program I was lucky enough to be associated with Dr. Julie Callanan MD., PHD. I was able to bring my thoughts and ideas to her and discuss them with her and get an honest open opinion. Over the years she realized the uniqueness of the program and agreed to become the consulting psychiatrist for (Building Wholeness).
"Healing is becoming what you were created to be and shedding what the world has made you" -Mary E Munsell
Understanding to whom and what you hold yourself accountable to.
To truly understand to whom and what you hold yourself accountable to helps you understand who you are.
Realizing that your world is larger than you may have always believed.
Understanding that everything is not always about you.
Understanding the 'ripple effect' in your actions and decisions.
When you truly understand the depth of accountability it can be the wake-up moment in your healing journey.
Accountability is the foundation in which Building Wholeness stands.
Developing the courage, strength and tools to change the way you make decisions.
Increasing the space between stimulus and response.
Understanding that change in the decision-making process is brought about by deliberate action.
Learn why you make the decisions you make.
Begin to control regressive cycles.
Controlling and minimizing triggers in your environment.
Recognizing red flag behaviors.
This is a step towards having control of your illness.
Understanding that being triggered is not a failure but a time to act.
You are not limited by your illness, You are a whole person.
Challenge false beliefs.
Claim the power in your Tapestry (your life-story).
A time to rebuild and create a life of wholeness on a new foundation.
Become who you were meant to be.
Shed the maintenance and coping lifestyle.
Develop reasons to continue to move forward in life.
Your old coping skills will once again become things you enjoy. They will be used for leisure purposes once again.
When you have reasons to continue to move forward you are more prepared to meet challenges and learn from them rather than trying to cope until they pass.
